The story

Sur was not born in a boardroom. It came out of actually running businesses, the kind where you are responsible for the P&L, the team, and what happens when something breaks on a Tuesday at 11pm.

We were operators. We hired people. We made expensive hiring mistakes. We discovered LatAm talent, figured out how to hire it well, and watched our businesses grow because of it.

Then our friends started texting. Then the texts turned into calls. Then the calls turned into "can you just do this for me?"

That is Sur. We are not a recruiting firm that learned about LatAm. We are operators who built their businesses on LatAm talent and decided to help others do the same thing. The playbook is real. We use it ourselves. Now we are selling it.

Sean Heilweil

Co-Founder, Sur · Founder, Cache Ventures

Sean is a serial entrepreneur who has been building and acquiring businesses long enough to have strong opinions about what actually makes them work. He founded Cache Ventures, a venture equity firm, as the vehicle for the businesses he builds and operates.

His entry into LatAm talent was not a strategy. It was an acquisition. Years ago Sean acquired a company out of Brazil and inherited the Brazilian team that came with it. That team slotted in alongside his New York-based team, performed exceptionally well, and quietly changed the way he thought about hiring forever. He never looked back.

From that point on, LatAm talent became a core part of how he builds businesses. Not a cost-cutting move. Not an outsourcing experiment. A genuine competitive advantage that he kept using because it kept working.

Cache Ventures is the vehicle. Sur is the playbook made available to everyone else.

Emi Rose

Co-Founder, Sur

Emi built her career across sales and operations roles at VC-backed companies in the Boston tech startup scene. She is the kind of operator who is equally comfortable building a pipeline and fixing the process behind it.

She has been in the region since 2012, starting in Mexico. She completed her MBA at IAE Business School and has been based in Argentina ever since. She knows Latin America the way you only can when you actually live there, not from a conference or a sourcing trip.

Then Sean hired her as Founder in Residence at Cache Ventures. The idea was simple: join, and either run one of the existing companies or build something new. Emi will be the first to tell you she did not fully believe that pitch when she heard it.

She probably should have.

Emi is the person at Sur who lives in the markets we hire from. She knows the talent landscape because she is in it. She knows what great looks like because she has managed it. And she knows what US businesses actually need because she has been building them.
